Overview

‘Coatsworth Road’ was a co-production with Tyneside Cinema. A documentary exploring faith made by 14 year olds from Joseph Swan School, it follows the Jewish, Muslim and Methodist communities of Gateshead.

The young filmmakers were trained up in observational documentary techniques and it was of primary concern that throughout the 9 month project the filmmakers themselves found the questions they wanted to ask. As a result they all went on a personally transformational journey and managed to create a truly honest documentary.

The overwhelming response has now led to an airing due on the Community Channel in 2009/10. Young filmmaker Laura Crane, 14, said of the experience “I have opened my eyes more as to what really goes on, and I now take in how religious people feel”
