Workshops & Mentoring

About

Striding Edge Films delivers accessible film & media workshops to schools, universities, colleges, charities and voluntary organisations. Our on-going work in the broadcast industry keeps the workshops fresh, fun and up to date.

The Workshops

We can tailor-make our workshops to relevant themes and adapt to all levels of experience. Alternatively we can offer ready made sessions such as ‘An Introduction to Basic Film-making’, right through to master-classes in ‘Documentary Technique’ and ‘Advanced Camera or Editing’.

We can offer:

Mentoring

Having been involved in a number of film projects in a mentoring capacity, this is something we love to do. We can be mentors to film and media projects for all ages and levels of experience.

Professional Crew

Where possible we like to bring professional film and media practitioners into the workshops, these are always carefully matched to the group in question. We can also bring in graduates of media degrees, for young people, we find this enables them to make real connections for possible career paths.

Film Crew can include:

Schools

With extensive experience in teaching and group workshop technique Striding Edge Films makes a point of understanding curriculum and module requirements.

Our practise encourages a partnership with the schools which can identify opportunities that enhance school’s timetables rather than compete. This approach enables everyone to get their needs met.

Co-funding opportunities are of particular interest, as we have experience and access to a variety of funding routes.

Beat the Bully has been well received by young people, and has been hugely successful in communicating anti-bullying messages from young people to their peers. The film is an ideal tool with which to approach curriculum topics such as citizenship, PHSE, social skills, emotional understanding and careers guidance.

Universities and Colleges

We offer Master Classes in all areas of professional documentary production. We can tailor-make our sessions to module requirements but always keeping up to speed with contemporary broadcast and media issues. Typical sessions are:

We are keen to nurture long-term relationships with higher educational organisations as part of their practical based courses. We have on-going relationships with both Teesside and Sunderland Universities.

“Each time Emily and Striding Edge have given classes to our students, they bring with them a fantastic enthusiasm for film-making. Of great value is Emily’s discussion of people and their lives and how as a film-maker she is privileged to tell their stories. These discussions are vital as they shift learners from concerns of aesthetics, to the social responsibility of the film-maker”

Warren Harrison, Senior Lecturer/Programme Leader, Television Production Professional Practice, University of Teesside
